Outreach at Glen View Highschool

Today was a very fulfilling day as we participated in an outreach event at Glen View High School, a local continuation school. Around 63 students visited our booth, where we handed out small prizes, shared information about library services, and helped several students sign up for new library cards. The event lasted about three hours, and I worked alongside Indira, our Librarian I, and Julia, our Supervising Librarian. The teamwork flowed smoothly, and it was rewarding to see how engaged the students were once they realized how many resources were available to them, from homework help and study spaces to digital tools and creative programs.

One of the most valuable aspects of the day was seeing how outreach connects the library to people who might not otherwise visit. Talking with students about our services gave me a clearer understanding of how to tailor communication for a younger audience, keeping things short, relevant, and approachable. I also learned how important it is to present the library not just as a place for books, but as a community resource that supports education, creativity, and even career readiness. It was a good reminder that effective library work often happens outside the building, through genuine connections in the community.
