First Day Doing Bookmobile!

Date: September 12th

Time: 10am-3pm

Today was my first time shadowing the outreach team with our bookmobile. I went into the library from 10:00–11:00 a.m. to get a rundown on how things work, and then I drove back to Beaumont District Schools at 3:00 p.m. to help set up for the district’s back-to-school event. Setting up took about 15 minutes and included two desks, chairs, pamphlets, and a spinning wheel where kids could win prizes such as books, pencils, markers, and candy. I worked with 2 other Librarians and it was a privilege learning about the Outreach events that we do and what a outreach Librarian does.

I was nervous at first since I am still learning all the programs, but everyone who came to the desk was very friendly. The staff was also supportive and patient in answering all my questions. The event lasted until about 7:00 p.m. and turned out to be long but productive. It takes about 20 minutes to set up our area and the bookmobile is organized very nicely. Instead of the Dewey decimal system it is by genre for the kids to make it easier. If you want animals, mood, picture books, etc

Overall, I did better than expected. I was able to handle the influx of kids and parents and received good feedback from my team that I was helpful and fun to work with
