Improving Library Outreach Through Social Media Research

Time: 9am-5pm

Today I was under our supervising Librarian Julie who was a delight to work with. Kelly was gone and she sat down and spoke with me a while as she listened to my background experiences and future goals. This day was split in half as the first part being research and ideas about our social media page and the second doing reference.

She showed me the new Instagram page for our bookmobile and wanted me to gather insights from other libraries and what they are specifically doing for there outreach to improve ours. Hailey runs our social media page and it was interesting talking to her learning what gets patrons engaged when she is out at events.

I proposed many ideas around doing interviews, higher quality images, and doing blog posts surrounding the events on our website. The other task for research was doing a comprehensive review of our website and seeing every program we offer and making sure we guide the patrons to the right resource. This is something I am really interested in doing in the future. A lot of Patrons I talk to go on the Instagram and that is how most of our Patrons come.

The rest of the time I shadowed Tamera at the reference desk. Most of the questions had to do with printer and computer questions.
